Customise Your Adidas Boots? MSB Gets Crayons Out.

In Blog on December 28, 2010 at 11:36 pm

AdiZero F50s are the lightest, most ‘stamp on my naked toes’ boots ever created. Highly desirable even in factory standard yellow or black, now they’ve let you go wild in the aisles with your own colours and ideas. Oh yes, you can design your own Adidas boots at ‘Mi Adidas‘ now, so MudSweatBadges got our crayons out to have a pop.

By the way, these boots are $256.00 in America, (where I am currently) however they are a whopping £230.00 in England. I knew there was a bonus to moving continents. Anyway, I still can’t afford them, so I enclose my designs. They’re a US 10, medium width- if anyone’s reading this at Adidas who wants to donate a pair, this is what I’d like!

And an American flag, of course. Cheers!

WTF is this Prototype Adidas Boot on eBay?

In Blog on December 22, 2010 at 12:29 am

A grab from the mystery eBay auction

“They are UNRELEASED and will be worn by big players such as: Messi, David Villa, Nani, Dani Alvez, and many many more,” says the eBay auction for these bizarre, ‘Back to the Future’ editions of the popular F50 boot. ”Set to be released in 2011. Weigh just 5.8 ounces. GRAB YOURSELF A BARGAIN!”
They look pretty odd to be honest, and that tongue must be a joke. But this might just be the ‘Adizero Prime’ Adidas have been promising.

Just several months after the release of the Adidas F50 Adizero, pictures were already circulating the net of the ‘Prime’ (below)

As you can see from these photos, the design of the Prime will be slightly different than the current Adidas F50 Adizero, and there are what looks like Predator fins on the instep.

For the meantime, the ‘eBay Primes’ may be just a practical joke, or perhaps a leaked release of next season’s boot. Or perhaps even some moody Hong Kong replicas from some dodgy market stall. You decide, here.

Mexican Madness

In Blog on December 18, 2010 at 4:48 pm

As you may have read on my Umbro.com blog, I’m rather partial to a drop of Mexican soccer. And this little beauty just showed up on eBay…

Aguirre was one the best midfielders of Mexican history. He was a former World Cup 1986 player and also played for Nasl team Los Angeles Aztecs . He is both an America de Mexico and Chivas de Guadalajara idol. This is his
shirt and I covet it. for realsies.

American Baseball Jersey Sells for $300,000 (£185,800)

In Blog on November 15, 2010 at 1:41 am

Okay, I should explain before you read this blog, that I have recently moved from London to America.
Here, everything is bigger, crazier, and more expensive. I won’t waste your time talking about the hamburgers, but it couldn’t escape my attention that the personal collection of a rounders player here, called Kirk Gibson, went under the hammer this weekend. Check out the prices!

Game-worn jersey from Game 1 of the 1988 World Series: ($303,277.20)

Gibson’s home run bat from Game 1 of the 1988 World Series ($575,912.40)

The bidders were reportedly a father and son sports collectors’ team from Santa Barbara, Calif., who won the bidding for the iconic Kirk Gibson items today, Sunday. Chad and Doug Dreier paid $1.19 million for the five items, which included Gibson’s home run bat, jersey, helmet ($153,388.80), and some trophies.

Now, how do we get these chaps interested in ‘soccer’ memorabilia. And more importantly, why do they call it a ‘World Series’ when only America competes?

My Pick Of eBay This Week

In Blog on November 14, 2010 at 6:32 pm

Charlton Athletic shirt from the homoerotic sounding ‘Member’s Cup’.

Completely overpriced at £3,000, but a beautiful United match worn shirt from the early 90s. (Also, would you buy an ‘authentic’ shirt from a seller that flogs replica sleeve badges from Hong Kong?)

This United shirt is authentic, however, because I once owned it. Do I regret selling it? It’s currently for sale for £1,250. (Yes).

Pick of the week!
Maradona’s 1981 Boca Junior’s shirt. Reasonably priced.

One of the most attractive shirts ever designed. I’m a sucker for a baby blue football shirt.

And finally…a cheeky scamp is peddling one of my books, signed by me. It just sold for £36.99. You can get yours from jeffmayshbooks.co.uk, signed versions also available, with worldwide shipping. Click here!

More Teams Should Have Reversible Kits

In Blog on November 11, 2010 at 1:56 am

I tried this football shirt on in a thrift store in Hollywood today, but it was criminally too small for me. I saw it in American Vintage on Melrose and noticed it was reversible.

The clue it would be too small for me is ‘Larchmont Jnrs FC’!
But anyway it got me to thinking, why don’t more teams have reversible kits? The last I remember was Manchester United.

Hand Of God England Shorts on eBay

In Blog on November 9, 2010 at 10:00 pm

The shorts worn by England legend Chris Waddle in the fated England vs Argentina match in the 1986 World Cup Finals have appeared on eBay, in all their baby blue, silky glory. Hand stitched numbers, embroidered England crest- these chaps are the real deal.

Look, I’ve got no idea how much these should sell for…there’s not really a market for match worn shorts (You just can’t frame them, can you?) But I seriously covet these. FYI my eBay ‘offers’ of £50, £65 and finally £89.99 were all declined automatically.

I couldn’t find any photos of Waddle in the shorts, but here is a picture of Diego Maradona surrounded by blue silky shorts. If you want to try your luck at bidding, the auction is here.

Is This The Best Retro Kit Of All Time?

In Blog on November 8, 2010 at 1:52 am

Two beautiful vintage match worn shirts appeared on eBay this week, of Mexico City team, Club Universidad Nacional A.C., more commonly known as los Pumas de la UNAM… or just los Pumas to their fans. These shirts are pretty damned sexy, agree?

This is a team with some serious history, and a kit that is pure class. Although, I did a bit of digging, and it seems their modern kit design truly betrays a glorious shirt history. Pumas used to roll out in attractive pinstripes, in the 1960s, which according to Wikipedia were their glory years:

“Club Universidad won the promotion on January 9 of 1962 by defeating Club Cataluña de Torreón by a score of 5-1 in Ciudad Universitaria. At the end of the game the celebration was moved from the stands to the pitch when the fans invaded the field to congratulate their heroes, and the players were carried in the shoulders of the fans, this was the first step towards the consolidation of the club.”

Today they appear to have adopted a puma animal logo and wear it across the front as a badge of honour. Now, I’m no football shirt design guru, but why not just stick to your roots? Because the below is an abomination.

Pumas fans, send your hate mail to the usual address. eBay bidders, you can find these glorious 1960s shirts here, and here. Adios amigos.

New Millwall Shirt Pays Tribute To Hooligans

In Blog on November 7, 2010 at 1:33 am

This is the 125 years celebration Millwall shirt made by Macron. The one-off shirt, which Millwall’s first team wore in the anniversary match against Burnley on Saturday 2nd October, is the first football kit in history to pay tribute to football hooliganism: its design features the names of all 3,085 supporters who have been arrested for football violence in the club’s history.

“It’s fantastic for the big ‘firms’,” said Terry Potter, 42, from Bermondsey, whose name is featured just above the club crest. “I was arrested for affray after a clash with Wimbledon back in the day, and I’m pleased I’m part of the fabric of the clubs history.”

The Police were not so keen, a spokesman saying, “This shirt could incite violence, if today’s thugs will commit crimes to gain a place on a future kit, we could take the shirt off sale.”

Millwall, whose unofficial slogan is, “No one likes us, we don’t care,” said today, “The shirt is available from the club shop for £45.00″
