In Blog on May 29, 2010 at 5:09 pm

Spurs are selling on various bits of kit to support the Tottenham Tribute Trust. The prices are already out of control, but there are some tasty little items up for grabs including Lennon’s surprisingly religious Nike boots.

Chris Kirkland’s £10,000 England Debut Kit

In Blog on May 26, 2010 at 11:47 pm

Kirkland debut shirt

This is another glimpse into my collection, in Chris Kirkland’s England debut shirt. I collect shirts with a story behind them, and famously, Kirklands parents had put a £100 bet on their then child goalkeeper playing for England before he was 30. When he made his senior debut, against Greece in August 2006, it was in this shirt. (And I got the shorts too.) Check the BBC news cutting below. Read the rest of this entry »

And Now, The Man With A Thousand Football Coats…

In Blog on May 25, 2010 at 5:41 pm

After revealing the story of Lucas Penman, the man with a thousand Predator boots, I thought I’d turn the spotlight on other obsessive collector types I know. Firstly, because I love evidence that other men are as compulsive as me, and secondly to remind my girlfriend how she lucky she is that this lot don’t live in our one-bedroom flat.

"The Clothes Mountain"

Anyway, introducing ‘Mr Clothes Mountain’ as he calls himself on Flikr, which is where the bulk of his outrageous football coat collection is photographed.

Standard United: Can A Hollywood Hotel HAVE A Cooler ‘Soccer’ Strip?

In Blog on May 22, 2010 at 3:14 pm

Warning: this blog is going to be extremely self indulgent.

If you’re working in Hollywood, Los Angeles, there is only one hotel to stay in, and that’s The Standard. If you’re holidaying, check into the Mondrian next door, but if you’re a media twerp on expenses or on the lam, it’s Di Caprio’s former hotel, on Sunset Blvd.

The view at The Standard (I took this photo)

I’ve stayed there a couple of times, and it’s full of Brits working in film, telly, porn or worse, magazines like mine. There are electric orange tiles, ping pong tables by the pool, and various neato touches that make it fucking cool and 10/10 poncey. Anyway, I follow the hotel’s Twitter account (of COURSE they have a Twitter account, and an ‘SVP of Social Curation’) and I noticed they have not only got a football team, but a strip that has caught the attention of a Hollywood style blog, and now Mud. Sweat.Badges.

The Standard United kit (front)

This shirt will be used in the  ‘Adidas’ annual adiCup tourney,’ and features the upside down Standard logo to the reverse. And…I. Want. One. Bad. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m At Nike’s Official Launch Of These Today…

In Blog on May 20, 2010 at 11:55 am

And here are those snaps, taken today. The boots launch on Saturday, and there will be a quite brilliant television advert on TV tonight at 7pm. The eagerly anticipated “Elite Pack” collection features a boot from each of Nike’s 4 silos – Mercurial (speed), T90 (accuracy), Tiempo (touch) and CTR360 (control) – basically so you’ll know when a player is wearing Nike in the World Cup: their feet will be purple and orange, no matter the model.

Introducing “Mr Predator”, Luke Penman, 19.

In Blog on May 20, 2010 at 12:22 am

Lukes 'booty'

Luke Penman

“Instead of putting my savings into the bank, especially when you hear of banks like Northern Rock going bust, I decided to put it all into Predator boots. Predator Mania boots, to be precise.”
So writes Luke Penman, 19, from Peterborough. The teenager is the world’s authority on all things Adidas Predator, and claims to have lost count of how many pairs he actually owns. “It’s purely about researching, and turfing them out of shops from all around the world. I’ve got hundreds of pairs.” Read the rest of this entry »
